Arizona rock quartet Ever Stays Red has been around for quite sometime. In 2004, they released their first independent album and in 2006 they released a second EP. Recently signing to VSR Music Group, these four Mesa natives have begun a new chapter in their lives and have released their full-length debut as confirmation.
Surprisingly, the album opener "Rocks And Reeds" actually serves as the intro to the title track, an encouragement to pursue your dreams and to never give up. "To Shine For You" possesses an upbeat tempo and a message that's pretty obvious: shining our lives for Christ and reflecting His character. "Can't Explain" describes the unexplainable transition from sinfulness to complete redemption through these relevant lyrics: "Yesterday I was six feet underground and now I'm on my knees, I can't explain..."
"Run" is a track packed full of heart-racing, in-your-face drum beats and guitar chords, while "Love So Loud" is an anthem illustrating the desire and determination to reach this generation with Christ's love ("Stand and take my place among those bold and brave...I will not keep quiet any longer"). "Bright Eyes" is more of a stripped-down tune, providing a mellow touch and slowing the pace a bit while still keeping in touch with intense guitar riffs and soaring vocals. "Life In The Fire" reveals a personal yet raw devotion for God, adding to the spirituality factor.
"Glorious" can be labeled as a passionate worship song that mentions God directly ("God, You are glorious"), whereas "Say What You Will" reminds us that life has purpose and depth ("There is a Life that makes this world go around tonight"). "Look To The Hills" makes a clear reference to Psalm 121 ("Just look to the hills, boy, when you're in trouble") and assures us of a new day ("Redemption will rise like the sun"), while "Letters" gracefully closes the record on an appropriate note.
This record, without a doubt, possesses talent in the music and lyric departments as well as vocally. Lead singer Dustin Carlson provides the project with unique vocals, a quality that is very difficult to discover. It is safe to say that this record is one to buy and this band is one to watch for.
