Jade Harrell
Class Reject

Album length: 13 tracks: 50 minutes, 8 seconds
Street Date: June 2, 2009

20-year-old Jade Harrell is the first to be signed to rap duo GRITS's Revolution Art label. Citing influences ranging from Brandy to Michael Jackson to country, the album reflects a diverse mix of tunes sure to get your blood pumping.

The album opens with a club ready, R&B flavor with "Into The Music," which has a verse from GRITS's Bonafide. GRITS' other member, Coffee, appears later on in the similar sounding "Addicted." Class Reject changes gears on "Me & My Radio," an infectious hip-hop influenced pop song. The song addresses the fact that Christians can have fun without all the drinking, sex, drugs, etc. that the world puts out for us today, in lyrics like "I don't need a club to dance all night/I'll be my own DJ with my own strobe lights."

"Don't Leave" comes in the form of a Motown throwback that could have been a number-one hit if it was released about forty years earlier, and sounds just like something The Supremes would have sung. Another song that strays from the pack is the rock-influenced "The Unseen," which Jade pulls off with great confidence. Other highlights include the Ayiesha Woods collaboration, "Who You Are," the mainstream radio ready "You & I," and the openly honest "Only Human."

With a slew of catchy tracks and quite a diverse batch of styles, Jade Harrell never fails to deliver on her debut album. I think it's safe to say that Jade is here to stay.
