The Cross Movement
HIStory: Our Place In His Story

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 17 tracks: 76 minutes, 37 seconds
Street Date: June 5, 2007

For those who haven't had the privilege of hearing The Cross Movement before, the group has been making rap tunes since 1997 and pumping out amazing albums the entire time. HIStory: Our Place in His Story is the finale for the group, and despite the sadness over this being their last installment, they don't disappoint. This Grammy nominated album delivers more of what we have come to expect from these guys - some seriously good rap that never fails to represent the Lord well. Every single member delivers solid solo tracks, and the group-style songs are fantastic as well. Each CM album delivers tight beats, smooth sounds, and Christ-centered lyrics, all while hitting home with messages on trusting in God, making the right choices in life, and knowing that God is all that we need in life. HIStory is no exception.

The album opens with "Our God" featuring The Ambassador setting the tone for the album for a solid start. "Back For This" is a great story-telling track featuring TRU-Life, about a Christian who makes a bad decision and has to face the consequences. "Big Thing" and "Tapestry" bring what most of today's rap is missing - those loved old school beats or some extremely fast paced lyrics. "Whatchu Say," "Get That," and "Louder" are all anthem style tracks that can be proudly played in any club or when cruising with the top down. It's the kind of music that makes you bob your head.

One of the most impressive songs on the album would have to be "Name Up." It's rather difficult for rap artists to deliver a decent praise song, but this track well surpasses expectations. The mixture of Tedashi's deep and gritty vocals mesh wonderfully with each unique style of the CM boys. With lyrics like "If we getting rid of God, then tell me just what stays? Cuz' anything left here is catching a blaze" and "He's the peace be stiller, grace & mercy giver, we decided to surrender cuz ain't nobody realer" lets you know where they stand when it comes to who's first in their lives.

"Clap Your Hands," "Trust in Him," and "I Love You" would be the only weak songs on the album, which isn't bad for a 17 track album. They just don't seem to carry the same weight as the rest of the record's songs. Hands down, the highlight of every CM album is the "Cypha" track, this one being "The Last Cypha." This is definitely another very worthy "Cypha" track featuring the talents of Trip Lee, R-Swift, Mac, IZ-Real, Flame, & Da Truth accompanying the CM. Sadly, the title brings to realization that this is the end of one of the greatest rap groups of all time. The pioneers from Philly who have been such a force to be reckoned with will be tremendously missed. Even though this is not the best of Cross Movement's albums, it is a solid effort with good beats and memorable lyrics. It should be copped by all lovers of Christian rap.
