Every once in awhile a really good new band puts out a CD that really
catches your attention. Sometimes it may take you awhile to realize
their talent or potential, and other times it's instant. With
this years' release of new 4-piece rock band The Elms 5-song EP,
this holds true. I must be honest to say that at first listen, I wasn't
too impressed, but the more I spun it, the more I liked it and I
believe The Elms have potential to be one of the best new releases of the year.
The Elms produce solid rock tunes, propelled by catchy rhythms and thoughtful
lyrics. Where the vocals may fall short, the instrumentation recovers to
carry the songs through. Their sound has been compared to the likes of Oasis, Foo Fighters,
Radiohead, and the Beatles while still having their own sound. Highlights
on the album are "Lifeboat" and "Goodnight Rosa," with the prior being the most catchy
and radio friendly.
So if you're looking for a refreshing new rock band in the Christian music scene
as an alternative to what's out there in the music world, tune into The Elms. I'm looking
forward to see what the band cooks up for their full project later this year.
