Tooth and Nail's next big thing comes out with a bang! Jonezetta is one of those
bands that doesn't like being boxed into a genre. Mix a bit of the new Audio Adrenaline sound with an Anberlin
emo feel, then add some of the TobyMac dance grooves, and you've got a good idea of what Jonezetta might
sound like. Hopefully the genre-bending quartet will make as big an impression on the indie music scene
as Showbread did.
The EP starts with the mello "Communicate," a song about a broken relationship, in which the singer
wishes he could always be with his love, Isabelle, but the couple are finding it hard "to communicate."
This song is very reminiscent of the latest emo acts, e.g. Acceptance, Anberlin.
Th EP then goes for a bouncy, upbeat approach with "The Love That Carries Me." This very TobyMac-esque
song nearly sings about itself, "Sorry, Sorry but the words mean nothing. When the chorus dies it kills
you to be alone," but the rest of the song sings about a girl who is looking for real love.
The EP goes wild with "Backstabber" and "Burn it Down!," both being dance-friendly upbeat tracks.
"Backstabber"'s message is pretty self explanatory - No one trusts a backstabber, no matter what they say.
"Burn it Down!" is mostly about burning things, featuring somewhat confusing lyrics, but offering a great
dance/rock beat and end the EP with zest.
Overall, the Jonezetta EP is great, with a whole new sound and image, but I'm hoping the
lyrics are a tad more meaningful on the upcoming full-length album.
