ME IN MOTION "EVERYTHING IS NOTHING" RED TOUR BLOG DAY 15:

Senses

Seth here, tired as ever, writing from our 8th story hotel room in Little Rock, AR. Just getting ready to drive back to Nashville after all the heavy stuff is loaded in the trailer. I've never been so ready to be home in my bed as now! For those who didn't know, I've been under some heavy weather the past couple days.

So I was talking to Tim earlier today, and we had an interesting discussion that sparked some thought in my head. We were talking about what life would be like if we didn't have a sense of taste, how eating would simply be to sustain life, and not for any source of enjoyment. I don't think there would be much of a food industry, since there really wouldn't need to be different kinds or flavors of food. People may not eat as much, and I think the world would be a much duller place. This convo led to thinking about, if we had to make a choice as to give up one of our senses, which would it be. We thought about the gift of sight, definetely a must have, as well as the sense of hearing, obviously a must-have since we are musicians. Then we talked about the sense of touch, which, if we didn't have, we'd probably just be tripping all over the place not even able to walk. And lastly, the sense of smell, which we both ended up agreeing, we'd give up before any of the others, although, we need it a lot more than we think!

I just got to thinking how much this is like the body of Christ, how, when you think about each part, how equally important each is, and just like we were trying to prioritize our "favorite senses", we couldn't manage to, because we really need all of them to function properly! Some of us are to be the hands, some of us to be the feet, others to be the eyes, and even some to be the ears...every single person in this Spiritual body is no more important than the next, and we need each other to benefit the whole thing, so let's all try to work together, and build each other up for the gifts that we have, realizing how important it is for us to work within our gifts, and not try to be something that we're not.

"You can easily enough see how this kind of thing works by looking no further than your own body. Your body has many parts—limbs, organs, cells—but no matter how many parts you can name, you're still one body. It's exactly the same with Christ. By means of his one Spirit, we all said good-bye to our partial and piecemeal lives. We each used to independently call our own shots, but then we entered into a large and integrated life in which he has the final say in everything." - I COR 12:12-13 (MSG)
