Few bands bring anything new to the rock and roll scene anymore. That is, until band mewithoutYou released [A-->B] Life last year. Few bands have taken me more listens to finally enjoy their music, but the investment was well worth it. These guys will rock your face off with a sound that has many pop sensibilities, but drives like hardcore (with spoken word instead of hardcore vocals).
[A-->B] Life kicks off with the rocking single "Bullet to Binary," immediately followed by "The Ghost," which is one of the poppier offerings on the CD. The album highlight is definitely "Gentlemen," a song about a lost love. The song includes lyrics like "We never met, you and I/ We were always inside, we were somewhere inside one another/ And I'll live without your love/ but what good is one glove, without the other?" While most of the songs on this album revolve around broken relationships between a male and a female, Aaron Weiss' lyrics shine in a spiritual sense on the track "Silencer." "My Lord, how long to sing this song/ And my Lord, how much more of this pretending to be strong/ When she stands before your throne/ Dressed in beauty not her own/ All soft and small, you'll hear her call/ 'You brought me here, now take me home.'"
With strong life lyrics and an incredible take on vocal styling, mewithoutYou offers a strong debut in [A-->B] Life.
