To be honest, I had never listend to Salvador before I picked up this album. However, since I am a Christian music fan and a Spanish student, I didn't think this album was an opportunity I should pass up.
Con Poder starts out with two very strong songs. "Alegría" and "Con Poder" are both full of infectious rhythms and amazing instrumentals. These two songs often get stuck in my head. Later on the album, "Montaña" also carries the same infectious, make-you-want-to-dance feel.
A couple of places on the album are a little slow. "La Palabra" and "Danzo Como David" can both be a little slow and repetitive. However, not all of the slow songs are a negative for Salvador. "Un Día A La Vez" and "Siempre" are both almost worshipful in both lyrics and music. "Siempre" also switches to English about halfway through the song- perhaps a relief for the non-Spanish speakers.
Overall, Con Poder is a fun album full of lively instrumentals and great lyrics (for those who can understand them). Although there may not be a strong appeal for those without the language knowledge, the option of a Christian album in Spanish is something fresh and different. The guys of Salvador have created a highly respectable tribute to their cultural roots that should be appreciated for what it's worth.
