After Eight
The Revival Of The Fittest EP

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 6 tracks: 20 minutes, 54 seconds
Street Date: 2007

I first saw afterEIGHT (now known as Capital Lights) on the Green T Tour with Hawk Nelson and Run Kid Run, and they pumped up the audience with the best power pop I've ever heard. So I picked up this EP and was astonished to hear one of the best new bands out there.

The EP starts with "Now You Can Show...So Show Up," a great debut for the EP, which gets you excited for what is to come. It's then followed by "You're Worth as much as a Counterfeit Dollar," which is another great rock song. "Lover of the World's War" follows, which bears a sound much like the EP's opener. "Spreading Rumors in the South," however, is the highlight of The Revival Of The Fittest. It is a fast paced song that is hard to dislike.

"The Night of Your Life Is When You Die," has a similar vibe to "Counterfeit Dollar," while the EP's hardest song "Can I Get An Amen," ends the project. This song also offers one of the only problems on the record - the vocals. They are almost impossible to understand at times. But nevertheless, the song is basically solid when it comes to the lyrics, like with the rest of this EP. The other problem is that most of the songs musically sound too much alike, leaving room for the band to change things up a bit more.

Overall, this album is very solid. In fact, it would be a grave mistake for any power pop / rock fan to turn this one down.
