The Violet Burning are no strangers to Christian music. Though, they may seem like it. I admit, I had never heard of them prior to getting the assignment to review their latest disc This is the Moment. They've been underground favorites for ten years (Believe it or not, they've sold 90,000 records in their long life span), but never, I guess, got too much recognition by the public at large. It's kind of strange, because they are quite an exceptional band.
The band sounds like emo and rock n' roll trains colliding at high speed. They can be compared to Rock n' Roll Worship Circus, as well as Luna Halo; and, most recently, Stereo Motion. But they have a little pop/rock twinge. It's definitely different from anything you've heard before.
The twelve songs on the disc deal mostly with God, though some songs drift into romance and the anticipation of getting to Heaven. The lyrics a very blatantly Christian. It's never watered down or in any way cryptic. The guys definitely love God and sing about it often.
I'm glad I've now been introduced to The Violet Burning. They are a great band with a great sound and even better messages. Anyone into the recent emo/rock or rock n' roll resurrections would do well to pick this one up.
