Passion
The Best Of Passion [so far]

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 2 Discs, 30 tracks
Street Date: December 26, 2006

Passion has been an organization that has been around the music scene ten years now, playing the beloved worship music we all have come to love. The Best of collection offers us many memorable moments from the Passion One Day Events over the past eight years.

After first hearing this remarkable 2 disc collection, I was blown away by the remarkable talents of these artists. These are people who love God and want their music to touch their audience. This set certainly doesn't feature all the great songs, but these 30 tracks leave us feeling God's presence within our lives. David Crowder*Band opens the collection with his song "Come and Listen." This song features just him and an acoustic guitar belting out this great praise song. A great way to open the album, but then why does the second song have to be another Crowder penned hit? "You Alone" is a Sam Perry hit on this collection, and he does a great job, but after listening to Crowder's debut release, He sings the song much better.

Watermark's Christy Nockels has some good songs on this collection as well, including "His Renown," which is a call to lift up our hands and call on his name. Then we have "Grace Falls down," which is a pretty song, but it's slow. I would have loved to hear "Holy Roar" on this collection. Charlie Hall has a very unique voice, yet he blends in perfectly with the other Passion artists. He sings the classic worship song "You're Worthy of my Praise" with such fervor one could just stop and be awe struck. He sings his popular song "Salvation" like none other. This is a great song about the salvation of Christ coming up from the ground. It's a unique way to look at salvation. He also does quite a marvelous job with "Marvelous Light" from his album Flying into Daybreak. Charlie Hall is another one of those worship leaders who strive to create lyrics different from those of his genre.

The best songs Matt Redman does on this collection is "All Over the World" and "You Never Let Go." These songs bring about a fresh perspective of what we should be doing in Christ. Chris Tomlin is the last notable artist on this collection. Whenever he does a song live, it always ends up turning out good, and that is no different for tunes like "Enough," "We Fall Down" (Which he sings in a foreign language), and "Holy is the Lord," one of the best songs on this collection.

For this collection I can say that there are certainly some less than desired songs - either from the big acts, or some from the 'new artists' - and there were some really significant moments on the journey of Passion. If these songs spark your interests, by all means pick up the other nine albums. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.
