These verses from Scripture reveal how God uses His Word to teach, correct, prepare, and equip His people. The great evangelist, D. L. Moody, was quoted as saying, "The Bible was not given for our information, but for our transformation."
I was reminded of Moody's quote the other day when my 11-year-old grandson, William, was telling me about how he was learning to help his parents around the house more - washing the dishes, doing laundry chores, and making his daddy's coffee. He explained to me that he felt led to make some changes in his life, since he had begun reading his Bible every day.
This concept of the Bible's ability to transform our lives is nothing new. Scripture itself tells us about the life-changing power of God's Word. "God means what He says. What He says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon's scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one can resist God's Word. We can't get away from it - no matter what." (Hebrews 4:12 MSG) As we read or listen to the Word of God, it reveals what we are, and what we are not. And like a surgeon's scalpel, it cuts away everything that would hinder us from becoming all that God created us to be.
The apostle Paul wrote: "And we also [especially] thank God continually for this, that when you received the message of God [which you heard] from us, you welcomed it not as the word of [mere] men, but as it truly is, the Word of God, which is effectually at work in you who believe [exercising its superhuman power in those who adhere to and trust in and rely on it]." (1 Thessalonians 2:13 AMP) When we are receptive to God's Word, it begins to work "effectually" in us, "exercising its superhuman power" in us as we choose to believe what is says. Hallelujah! Do you want God to make some changes in your life? Read His Word! It is not just for your information - but for your transformation!
Prayer: Lord, please use Your Word to teach me what is true, and to help me to realize what is wrong in my life. Use it to instruct me so that I am always able to discern the difference between good and evil. Use it to prepare and equip me for every good work. Thank You that as I spend time in Your Word and believe it with all my heart, it will exercise its superhuman power in my life!
