Lecrae
After The Music Stops

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 18 tracks
Street Date: August 15, 2006

After a successful debut, rapper Lecrae returns with his second album, After The Music Stops. The title refers to the concept of the album, which describes what goes on off the stage and behind the curtain for people and artists. The title track is also one of the biggest highlights of the album, using a hard rock-driven beat to set the song, and ultimately the album, off to a great start.

Much of Lecrae's second album lacks the hard hitting feel that drove his debut so far, yet lyrically, the rapper still keeps his point going. Songs like the title track, the soulful "I Did It For You," and the catchy "The King," are just some of the album's highlights. One thing that has not changed for the rapper is his blatant love for Christ and what He has done for him. Lecrae is not hesitant at all to say Christ's name in every one of his songs, as evidenced in the upbeat track "Unashamed." Other highlights include the beat driven "Jesus Muzik," the mission-themed "Send Me" and the bonus track, "Leap of Faith," but the album has a very hit and miss feel to it, and may leave many listeners skipping tracks every once in a while. Songs like "Run," "Unashamed," and "Get Low" all have a partially monotonous chorus, and can get boring quickly.

Overall, Lecrae has come a long way quickly, and this second album shows some maturity in production and style, musically and lyrically. This is definitely one for rap fans to check out. For casual fans of the genre, listen to his debut first before giving this one a spin.
