Less than a year after releasing their critically acclaimed The End Is Not the End, House of Heroes has put together a little treat for their fans. The band's affinity for The Beatles is apparent, and the latter's influence on the former is blatant. Thus, we are presented with House of Heroes Meets The Beatles... a three-song digital release.
Covering The Beatles isn't the most novel of ideas, in all honesty, but to hear House of Heroes do it is a lot of fun. Never do they stray far from the mold The Beatles created decades ago for the three songs present ("Can't Buy Me Love," "It Won't Be Long," and "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da"). Indeed, they stay faithful to the original vision, making the real joy just hearing a band forty years later that was so heavily influenced by the boys from Britain play their work. Of course, House of Heroes adds their signature intensity to the tunes (And that is part of the appeal), but these are very faithful recreations.
These songs are fun to hear covered at their shows, and it is a joy to hear studio recordings. They're nothing ground breaking or revolutionary, just fun distractions to keep us busy while the boys work on their next effort. Job well done.
