GO2
Push

Album length: 15 tracks: 59 minutes, 53 seconds
Street Date: August 25, 2009

In Luke 10:1, the Lord sends out 72 disciples two-by-two to preach His Word, inspiring this group's name "Go2." Their first full length album, Push - aptly named after the group's intention to deliver a strong message to today's believers to push forward - comes to us via One Eighty Records. The album displays quite a wide range of musical elements including hip-hop, jazz, R&B, soul, and gospel; think Boyz II Men blending together with some old school rap all focused on Jesus Christ.

Push opens with "Kumbyah," which is not your typical fireside sing-a-long from Bible camp. The song displays a beautiful mixture of soul and hip-hop with lyrics that fit nicely over the beats and the message is straight-up Christ. The title track "Push" has more of an old-school hip hop feel and is about about pressing on for the Lord. The sound and message come together to make perhaps the best track on the album. "Testimony" follows suit with more of that classic hip-hop feel and words that evaluate our roles as representations of Christ. The album also touches on relevant issues in "Well, Well" and "He'll Make A Way," songs that both speak of being a strong Christian and God always taking care of us.

Unfortunately, the entire album isn't comprised exclusively of ear-pleasing sounds. Both "Introducing" and "No Matter What" have great themes; the songs just become repetitive and seem to fall flat. "Under Construction" and "Meaning" are just plain corny songs and are not the ideal choice to have playing in your car stereo. Despite these flaws, however, the overall product comes out well for a freshman album. The future of Go2 should be bright if they continue to make albums containing the vast array of musical talents like those displayed on Push.
