Emery's The Columbus EEP Thee is a great EP all around. The early 2000's style brings familiar sounds, but the lyrics and style of playing make it stand out. Their heavy use of synths and heavy, distorted guitars give it a sort of punk flavor.
The EP also includes guttural "fry screams" which infuse the lyrics with power and emotion. Poppy choruses and catchy verses make the album very enjoyable to listen to, as well. The band's Christian beliefs also give their music a deeper meaning.
Some of the songs are a little long, and some feel sparse at times where they could have added a little bit more. Obviously, these things appear in this EP because it's an early recording of theirs, and most of the songs found here were re-recorded for later Emery later albums where they really started to show their maturity as songwriters. But diehard fans of Emery will definitely appreciate this early release of theirs.
