When I finally got the X2003 DVD, after getting the CD and starting to really dig the music on the album, I was very anxious to actually see all the music videos. However, what I saw was a letdown, for the most part. There are a few shining moments on the DVD, but a lot of the videos are just poorly done and uninteresting.
It starts off with "Lift Me Up" by The Benjamin Gate. The video is decent, but I found it to be too confusing -- the camera angle is switched every two seconds and the video is a little too artsy for its own good. Bleach's video "We Are Tomorrow" serves as one of the high points on the project, and Jeremy Camp's video "Understand" is done well also. "Speaking In Tongues" by The Elms is okay, but not extremely impressive, and is completely overshadowed by the next track on the DVD. "Dear Slim" by KJ-52 is a simplistic, yet well done, video while "My Mistake" by MxPx livens up the DVD as the three members of the group play the energetic punk song in their boxers. "Superfly" by The O.C. Supertones is okay, but a little boring, considering it isn't very original (an old guy dancing to rock music again???); but Relient K's "Chap Stick, Chapped Lips, and Things Like Chemistry" regains the viewer's attention with a funny (and quite bizarre) video set in a nursing home.
Sanctus Real's video "Say It Loud" is one of those where they tried to make a good video, but they unfortunately fell just short of it. The live version of "Kill Me, Heal Me" by Skillet is okay for what it is, but isn't particularly intriguing or interesting. "Alone" by Slick Shoes is a well done video with some neat effects in the rain, while Switchfoot's skydiving to "You Already Take Me There" is probably the best video on the whole DVD. The X2003 DVD closes with (ironically) "Get This Party Started" by tobyMac. It falls in the same vein as The Benjamin Gate's video did: an attempt to be artistic gone horribly wrong. I just can't figure out why they would close the DVD with this...
Overall, this DVD is a bunch of mediocrity with a few diamonds in the rough. However, if you were like I was, and you absolutely need to see these videos, just get it--it's worth the three or four good videos. It's not that expensive anyway.
