In 2019, Chris and Jenna Badeker made their debut under the stage name Wild Harbors. Their album, Monument, was (and still is) a more-than-solid debut that dealt with relationships and thankfulness, as it made listeners like myself smile, cry, and thank God. In those four years, the duo has released a few singles, albeit only in remix or instrumental form. But finally, they've announced a new release, and with that comes a brand new single called "Daylight."

The song is a bright and cheery tune that continues the sound they established on Monument. Individually, Chris and Jenna sound as good as ever, and they practically have harmonizations down to a science, blending their vocals perfectly over the perky acoustic guitar and ukulele. It's a fairly straightforward acoustic pop song, but it's a lot of fun and a joy to listen to. And the upbeat sound really complements the encouraging lyrics. Born out of the uncertainty of the 2020 lockdowns when, as the first verse says, "Days pass slow / we fill them with the same-old, same-old," the song is about making the most of our lives while we're here. The Badekers pull from Scripture to point out that, "You and I are but a breath in all of time," as they head to the chorus to sing, "How many heartbeats in our chest? / No way to know until we rest / so let's spend it well." Following a slew of celebrity deaths in the last week or so (as of time of writing this), the song's poignancy is really hitting home.

It's always a pleasure to hear from Wild Harbors. I love Monument and have been itching for new tunes for a few years now. "Daylight" is a great return single and is telling me that their next release is sure to be some of their best material to date. While we wait for that, be sure to check out "Daylight."
