By all appearances, Mark Fonseca looks like a country western singer with his cowboy boots and hat. While his music has an acoustic base, he's made a living for himself by writing pop songs for TV shows and ads. However, in addition to this, he's building a catalogue of songs with a more obvious spiritual angle. His latest single, "Light," is now out in anticipation of a new upcoming EP. This 5-minute track seeks to push past the lies and darkness surrounding us in the world today and calls for the light of Jesus to shine in our lives.

The track is a haunting tune, musically, as acoustic guitar is swallowed by keyboard pads and reverberating drums. A haunting chorus of voices also accents the chorus throughout the track. The music simultaneously works to reflect the darkness and uncertainty of our world while offering glimpses of the "light" Fonseca is singing about, with bigger choruses and moments in between verses. The lyrics, though nothing ground-breaking, still accurately portray the picture of what Fonseca is going for. The song opens by noting, "We've been lost so many times/We've been out of our minds..." but ends in hope, "We know you're coming soon/When you put an end to all the wrong."

Will "Light" be making an appearance on Christian radio anytime soon? Given its length, probably not, which is a shame as it feels fit for the medium. Mark Fonseca gives off a Zach Williams vibe, which is becoming more popular in the Christian market. Perhaps Fonseca can capitalize on that with this single and forthcoming EP. It's certainly a solid tune, worth a listen for fans of CCM who want a different flair to their diet other than worship.
