Sleeping Giant
Kingdom Days In An Evil Age

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 11 tracks: 38 minutes, 7 seconds
Street Date: July 12, 2011

The boys from California are back again with even a more aggressive album than before on a new label. Sleeping Giant has made quite a name for themselves through years of touring with For Today and other Christian metal giants (no pun intended) and is now sub-headlining this year's Scream the Prayer Tour behind (The Almighty) Norma Jean.

Kingdom Days in an Evil Age is much more unified than their previous efforts. Sons of Thunder suffered from mediocre production and sometimes a repetitive feel. The tradition of starting an album with a short song is kept here with "Throne Room Militance." The song kicks the album off with a very quick start as they declare "all we are is worship to the throne." "Tithemi" is the first standout track on the album. Drummer Travis Boyd shows off his talent on the drums with fast and precise tom movement. "All fear, all pain, all hurt, all grief, all lies, must bow to Jesus' name" is a good summary of the heart of the album. While many other hardcore bands that focus more on criticizing others than the glory of Jesus, such is not the case with this stunning work. Sleeping Giant entirely focuses their energy into the beauty and glory of God while significantly improving their musicianship. The creativeness of Thom Green's lyrics shows great maturity in "The Unnamable Name." It focuses on the countries where Jesus' name is illegal and proclaims "We declare breakthrough over you in the name of Jesus."

Sleeping Giant does a tremendous job at keeping the songs diversified and making each one sound different and unique. It's great to see a heavy band focus more on the Maker than breakdowns and growls. It's a rare gem that comes highly recommended to fans of the genre.
