Stavesacre
Against The Silence EP

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 5 tracks: 19 minutes, 7 seconds
Street Date: July 14, 2009

It's been quite some time since we heard new music from Stavesacre, who were once a major force in Christian hard music. Fortunately, the band members have re-united and recorded an independently released five-track EP titled Against the Silence for our listening enjoyment.

The first thing a new listener will notice on Against the Silence is Mark Salomon's unique vocals. You won't find any screaming here, rather very intense, somewhat high pitched vocals that are almost shouted. Those who have heard the band Neon Horse will already be somewhat familiar with Salomon's style. It's definitely unique among the Christian music scene, but it may be an acquired taste.

Musically, Against the Silence is heavy and hard. The final track slows things down somewhat, but the energy is especially noticeable on "Side-Stage Syndrome," with Salomon belting out the lyrics over a strong layer of guitar riffs, and on "The Dash On My Headstone," where Salomon vigorously shouts out "I'm gonna scream 'til I can't anymore." Throughout the EP, the guitar work is noticeably impressive. Listeners will be reminded of current heavy alternative rock acts like Red and Since October. But once again, the vocals provide a completely unique feel.

Against the Silence is a solid, enjoyable release and a good opportunity for those new to the band to acquaint themselves with Stavesacre, while those who are already fans will definitely enjoy this new release.
