03. Time Takes Its Toll On Us

Between The Dreaming And The Coming True
by Bebo Norman

Listen:

Lyrics:

Have I become a soul so numb
All too familiar
Words of gold have all grown cold
Over and over

I need to see you in the sunrise

Time takes its toll on us
And it tries its best just to steal our love
And we bend and we break but we don’t give up
Time takes its toll on us

From the start you touched my heart
And turned it in to something more
Beautiful, you’re beautiful
So why does it have to be so hard

To see you in the sunrise

Time takes, time takes away
Love remains, love remains

Behind the Song:
“This falls somewhere between a prayer written to God and a song written about the relationships we have with those we love - how life looks to us, I guess, in struggle and in beauty. Jason and I both feel that we’ve been given a great deal and led somewhat charmed lives, but we also live, like everyone else, in a really tumultuous world. So, how do we see God in this darkness? In light of that, how do we see ourselves? Jason and I threw thoughts back and forth on this song as we wrote, really just in a conversational sort of way - actually it was like that on almost all the songs we wrote together for this record. And that was a new experience for me. Typically, in songs I’ve written with other people, we would work on the music together and then I would finish the lyrics on my own. This was much more immediate and intimate - again really conversational - and an intriguing way to work because these songs ended up being very personal to the both of us.” - Bebo Norman
