Former Destroy The Runner Vocalist Explains Departure
NEWS SOURCE: Kyle Setter, a Jesusfreakhideout.com report
May 26, 2008
Last year, Destroy The Runner vocalist Kyle Setter exited the band to pursue other interests. In hopes to clarify the issue,
Setter approached JFH about answering the fans' burning question -- "why leave?" Here's what Kyle told us...
"Destroy The Runner just released their sophomore album I, Lucifer on Solid State
Records and I honestly believe it's awesome! The definition for sophomore is an American English term used to describe a second
effort, and I believe that they made an amazing second effort that will help their carriers for the long run! They are on their
first tour of the year supporting the record and everyone should go support them!
Why I left DTR... I felt God tugging on my heart for quite some time to leave DTR and, trust me, it was the hardest decision to
make in my entire life! Anyone with a semi-decent working brain would never leave a band that has a rather successful album debut
on Solid State Recods. I mean, we had it all: a video circulating on MTV, amazing National Tours, and the best fans in the world!
Duane, Marc, and Nick were my closest friends that I have ever had - closer then brothers! To tell them that I was leaving the
band after our Puerto Rico tour was the scariest thing ever! I was driving across the Bay Bridge in San Francisco while enroute
to Roseville for our next show. Previously, Marc and I had a discussion about where my heart was and where I saw myself in the
future. While I was driving, and me being the coward I am, Marc suddenly announced that I had had something to talkabout with
the band. In that moment, I remember praying to God that I would have the proper words to say and that the band wouldn't kill
me! As I told them, I felt this huge weight being lifted off of my shoulders. I mean, it was amazing!
Sixteen months later, I'm studying to go to medic school and to become a Fire Fighter while working eighty hours a week as an
EMT just to barely pay my bills. It is so weird how life changes and has its moments. God is so faithful in whatever he asks us
to do. My purpose in life is to follow whatever God has for me no matter what! I honestly miss music so much! It hurts to
pick up the guitar, let alone listen to music. Sometimes I do pray for God to open the door for music but that's not what my
life is about. My life is about being a sacrifice to the Lord. Until God calls me to music I'm going towards the ministry in the
fire department..."
