One of my relatives contacted me recently to ask for prayer. She was having a new patio put in, and she was more than a little nervous about it. She said that she felt silly asking for prayer for a patio, but I reassured her that she was being very wise, and that I would be happy to pray about it. Then I told her about a personal experience of mine.
Just a few months earlier, Joe decided that we needed a new roof on our house. As soon as he mentioned it to me, I immediately began to pray about it. I asked the Lord to send us the roofing company and crew that would do the best job from start to finish, and that would give us an excellent price for their work. Joe did a lot of research online, and he interviewed multiple companies. After much prayer, he decided on a certain company, and as it turned out, they sent a crew out that did a spectacular job on our roof. Afterwards, our next-door neighbors decided to hire the same company for their own roof. Unfortunately, a different crew handled the job, and the result was sloppy and faulty work. I pointed out to Joe how prayer and God’s involvement made all the difference between the two roofing jobs, and we were happy and thankful that we had consulted the Lord all the way.
Scripture says: “Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.” (Philippians 4:6 AMP) This verse makes it abundantly clear that the Lord expects us to pray about “every circumstance and situation,” and that He wants us to be “specific” about our requests. One reason for this is that when others see that we are praying about even little things – and God moves on our behalf – they will know that we serve a God who cares about even the smallest details of our lives. And many of these people will want a relationship with Him, too.
The following verse in this passage reveals that one of the best benefits of consulting the Lord about everything, is having an indescribable peace in the matter. (v. 7) What is it that God is prompting you to talk to Him about right now?
Prayer: Lord, by Your Spirit, teach me how to pray about everything, so that I won’t be fretful or fearful about anything. Whenever I begin to think that You don’t care about the details of my life, please correct my thinking. Thank You for all of the breakthroughs and blessings that will be mine as I invite You into every area of my life!
