Nashville, TN (July 2, 2010) ---- Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter/author, Andrew Peterson, has been honored with his first Christy Award for Young Adult Fiction. His latest and third children’s book, North! Or Be Eaten (WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group) won at the 2010 awards ceremony in St. Louis, MO last weekend at the International Christian Retailing Show. Peterson was unable to attend the event as he was on tour in Sweden.

The Christy Awards were established in 1999 in order to recognize and promote fiction of exceptional quality and impact written from a Christian worldview. The entries are read and evaluated by a panel of seven judges composed of librarians, reviewers, academicians and literary critics who have no direct affiliation with a publishing company. The Christy Award is named in honor of Catherine Marshall’s novel Christy, which has more than ten million copies in print.

“One of the biggest surprises in my life has been how much I love writing these books and connecting with young readers,” says Peterson. “Stories have always been a big part of my songwriting, so spinning a tale like The Wingfeather Saga gives me the same holy thrill. I couldn’t be more grateful for the award.”

North! Or Be Eaten is the second book in The Wingfeather Saga series, with On The Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness being the first publication. There will be a total of five books in the series and Peterson is working on the third book, which is scheduled for publication by Rabbit Room Press in early 2011.

The announcement of Peterson winning the 2010 Christy Award comes about a month before the release of his latest CD on Centricity Music, Counting Stars, on July 27th. The launch of the new project begins July 22nd with a performance on Nashville’s Fox 17 TN Mornings. Then Peterson begins a two-week promotional tour that includes stops at sixteen radio stations in the Midwest, Southeast and Southwest, along with appearances on Focus On The Family’s Weekend Magazine and The Boundless Show (taped), Moody radio’s This Is The Day (live) and LeSea Broadcasting’s Harvest Show (live) and Live From Studio B (taped). The first single from the new album, “The Reckoning,” is already garnering airplay and WOLW/Traverse City, MI is the latest station to add the single.
