Grits
Dichotomy B

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 13 Tracks: 45 minutes, 38 seconds
Street Date: November 2, 2004

Grits has done it again. As a way of giving it all they've got, Grits has decided to release a two part album for the completion of their contract with Gotee Records. Dichotomy A and B were released five months apart from each other so that they wouldn't have to keep fans waiting too long. As Bonafide raps in "On My Way," "Yes sir we back again, puttin' that heat to the track again."

As with their previous venture, Dichotomy B is full of experimentation. A was more about variations of R&B incorporated with raps, with a few pure hip-hop songs thrown in for good measure. The same happens here, except the raps are a lot more prominent throughout the entire album. One of the first tracks to stand out is "If I..." With a very thick beat and a distinct synthesizer in the background, it makes for a great radio hit. Acoustic guitars and R&B flavors fill "Open Windows," as well as "There I Go."

Grits has been experimenting with the use of female vocalists much more with these two releases, and it works for the majority of the time. Another thing that has been working for them is the continued use of different ways to create unique beats. Using everything from synthesizers to guitars to drums, the beats will make your head bob, like Grits intends for you to do.

Possibly the best track on the album is their current radio hit, "We Don't Play." It incorporates the rap/rock style that many fans have come to love, and with Manchild of Mars Ill to help out, the song is sure to become a lasting crowd favorite.

If you have Dichotomy A, or have heard any of it, expect more of the same with B. With somewhat better production for the second installment, Dichotomy B is basically a continuation of A, and is a must for any fan of Grits or good, quality rap music. It makes you wonder where these guys are going, with or without Gotee Records.
