JFH Music Review

EDL
Moment of Clarity

Album length: 13 tracks
Street Date: 1999

I have liked EDL for a year or so. I was supposed to see them at Cornerstone this past year but they cancelled and some ska band came on instead. Anyway, when I was asked to review this album I was very happy. As soon as I got home I put the CD in and I was enjoying the first two tracks immensely, but then something happened. I don't know what, but something changed. My smile turned to a disappointed frown. I was expecting the album to be filled with some great Christian Hip Hop hardcore, but it turned into an album filled with Hip Hop softcore.

It seems that EDL moved from their old style of in-your-face music into something I can't really explain nor do I want to. I was disappointed not only with the style but with the recording quality. The bass and drums both needed to be turned up and there needed to be more bass in the vocals.

The album did have some high points, however, like "Let It Ride," "Endurance"(but that was ruined with a remix of the song later in the album), "Incline," the chorus in "Adieu," and "Big Casino." But the low points outnumber the high ones. Lyrically, I was not really impressed either. Maybe I wasn't reading into them, but I just sensed a lot of anger and not enough God. If your lyrics are gonna be angry, help them out by making them sound that way. I don't know, this is just my opinion.

Overall, on a scale of 1-7 of brutal pit moves, I would give this a 2. If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself.
