Haste the Day is the latest on hardcore label Solid State's roster. They add thrashing guitar to screams, screams, and more screams on their debut Burning Bridges in a way that might not even appeal to those that enjoy the genre.

Frankly, if the guitar did not stop and then start again between tracks, this whole CD could make for one convincing, yet extremely long, song. That's a generalization, of course; but the fact stands that this entire album seems to run together, taking momentary breaks to catch its breath between tracks.

Lyrically, Haste the Day is surprisingly optimistic. Though, it is mixed with the usual darkness the metal genre is known for. But redemption and Christ are vital to Burning Bridges. In fact, that is where the title comes from. On the disc's opener, "Blue 42," vocalist Jimmy Ryan screams of burning bridges and his desire to "Shut myself off from the world."

The lyrics are not the only plus on this record. There are a few instances in which things are calmed down and Ryan displays the other side of his vocal talents. His voice is great, and it is a shame that this area was not explored more on Haste's debut.

Serious metal-heads may dig this stuff, but everyone else should steer clear. This is loud, raucous, and inane music that is definitely targeted for a specific crowd.
