Three of the members of new pop foursome, SHINEmk, are from the UK, and one is from Norway. These four early-20s girls combine their vocal talents with electronic synths and dance beats for a youthful pop feel. Their debut album, Do It Right, begins with the title track which sets the theme for the album and creates a soundscape reminiscent of Raze or, more applicably, an all-girl version of the Backstreet Boys.
SHINEmk does what they do right. Their voices harmonize wonderfully and the beats and melodies are catchy. "I Feel Good" slows it down a few beats for a sound that reminds me of Out of Eden. "Do You Believe in Love?" picks up where "Do It Right" left off. "More Than Words Can Say" changes direction and starts off with an acoustic guitar and piano. The girls' voices come in with a pretty melody in a style akin to the ballads of Backstreet and *NSync.
SHINEmk has given us an impressive debut album with Do It Right. Although the sounds and style are nothing new to the music listener's ears, SHINEmk presents a worthy alternative to the secular pop boy bands and female pop acts, like Spice Girls.
