Sara Groves returns to form with her latest offering, Tell Me What You Know. Groves has perfected the art of creating warm, intimate pictures of life, love, and faith. Tell Me What You Know adds to her catalogue of excellently crafted folk/pop and is sure to please fans both new and old.
Groves begins with the personal "Song for My Sons," a song full of advice and wisdom that both mothers and children can relate to. "In the Girl There's a Room" is a surprisingly upbeat track that proves Groves is comfortable with rock music. The rest of the album follows suit and features a good mix of up tempo and slower songs. Groves seems to mature with each album she releases, and her voice only sounds better and better.
Lyrically, Groves never hides her faith. In "Love is Still a Worthy Cause," an album highlight, she sings about her reasoning for love, stating, "I love because He loves me." The great thing about Sara is that when she sings about her faith, it never comes across as forced or contrived. It is simply the lens in which she views her world. She also makes biblical references on songs such as "When the Saints." Those looking for spiritual substance will find it in Groves' songs and those who are simply looking for good music will find her work just as satisfying.
It is a mystery as to why Groves is not as well known as some of her counterparts such as Nichole Nordman. She consistently releases excellent albums and never produces filler. Perhaps Tell Me What You Know will finally get her the recognition she deserves.
