JFH Staff's Second Opinion

It's a great time to be a fan of 90's and early 00's Christian rock. With bands reuniting and making new music -- like PFR, Flyleaf and Poor Old Lu, to name a few -- it seems only fitting for garage rock band Bleach to pick up their instruments again, too. To celebrate 30 years since their debut, Bleach returned to the studio to record The Fox Den Sessions Vol. 1 -- a series of fan favorites, giving them fresh takes, while keeping the sound true to their original recordings. This is almost a live album, but with a bit more polish (and no audience). The songs may not really differ much from their previous iterations, but the older songs from 1996 and 1998 especially feel transported into present day. The sound is crisp, the guitars lively and energetic -- this is the Bleach we fell in love with. The oldest of the songs fare the best, but all of the tracks sound fantastic (That new guitar solo on "Epidermis Girl" is particularly awesome). Hearing ten fan favorites in one place like this reminds us how great these songs still are. (I mean, "Land Of The Lost" absolutely rocks here!)

Towards the end of Bleach's run in the mid-00s, the band seemed to lose a lot of their energy, so it's a joy to hear the guys let loose once again. It's a blast to have them back in action, and I can't wait to hear what they offer with Volume 2. If you were ever a fan of Bleach, this project is an absolute delight; if you've never listened to the band before, this is the perfect place to start. They're in top form here. - Review date: 10/22/26, John DiBiase of Jesusfreakhideout.com
