Me In Motion
The Lifted Hands EP

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 3 tracks: 12 minutes, 4 seconds
Street Date: September 28, 2010

Tirelessly touring to make their name known, the up-and-coming pop/rock trio Me In Motion gained speed with their self-titled album early this year and hasn't seemed to slow down. On the heels of supporting their album, another new project called The Lifted Hands EP has been let out of the box, and this time it's completely worship. With three more songs by the band out in the open, what do they have to offer beyond their debut?

Starting with "Never Let Go," the classic MIM sound is immediately resonant. It is quite apparent that the band has progressed in their sound, even if just by a little bit, since their last venture. With a little bit of an "atmospherical" touch to the guitars, the sound feels more produced and polished than the band's unrefined approach from their self-titled album, but it ultimately does sound more accomplished and dexterous than previously heard. Seth Mosley's vocals sound better than ever; they maintain their uniqueness, but it's obvious that experience has only been a good thing in its progression.

As far as the selection of songs goes, it's too little to justifiably complain about for a three-song project. The covers of David Crowder's "Never Let Go" and John Mark McMillan's "How He Loves" are done well enough, but it's the trio's original "Love The World To You" that packs the most punch. Since the song was written by the band, it sounds much more like a product of the band's songwriting than the other two selections, and the song's structure and composition is very evident of this fact. As a congregational worship song, it does succeed for the youth group crowd, but unfortunately, probably little more than that. With a simplistic chorus found in "Go, go love the world to You, You're the answer/Go, go shine the light of truth, I wanna love this world," it doesn't make for an inherently low quality song, but it's not nearly as complex or developed as it could be. Though the other two covers on the EP aren't badly done either, original material probably would have made a better fit, especially with only three songs included here, with the overplayed and overly-covered "How He Loves" in the mix (both The Glorious Unseen and David Crowder*Band recorded high-profile versions last year, and they still feel recent).

Me In Motion has made a great supplementary project to their debut; while it's only a few tracks to deal with and more original material than covers would have been more preferable, it does feel nonetheless like a step above the normal pop/rock scene in this side of the industry, and it's one of the many reasons Me in Motion's career is bound to take off. These guys will only get better with time, and The Lifted Hands EP is only more evidence to prove this point.
