I lived most of my life trusting in my own wisdom, and the wisdom of so-called experts, and I made a lot of mistakes that I could have easily avoided if I had just consulted God. After I surrendered my life to the Lord for real, and began earnestly searching the Scriptures, I realized that getting godly wisdom can make the difference between success and failure in every area of life. But there’s more. Getting divine wisdom can make the difference between safety and harm: “Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.” (Proverbs 28:26 NIV) Some translations say that those who walk in wisdom will be “delivered.” (ESV)
For example, when we walk in wisdom where our finances are concerned, we will be delivered and kept safe from poverty, debt, and lack. When we walk in wisdom where our eating and sleeping habits are concerned, we will be kept safe from unnecessary harm to our health. When we follow God’s wisdom for our relationships, we will be kept safe from avoidable heartache and heartbreak. As the Bible says: “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” (Proverbs 13:20 NIV)
A good prayer to pray is, “Lord, help me to walk in wisdom so that I’ll be delivered and kept safe from all harm.” That’s a good prayer to pray for our loved ones, too. I often like to get specific and pray, “Lord, help us to walk in wisdom so that we’ll be delivered and kept safe from all sickness, disease, and pain.” When we pray prayers like these, we are asking the Lord to guide us with His wisdom so that we can make good decisions that will result in blessings instead of blunders.
Proverbs says: “Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.” (Proverbs 4:7 NLT) You and I can “develop good judgment” as we walk closely with the Lord each day, and continually seek His divine wisdom. Are you prepared to come up to a whole new level of safety and success in every area of your life today?
Prayer: Lord, teach me how to walk in wisdom in every area of my life. When I am tempted to trust in myself instead of You in some way, please remind me of what it can cost me. Help me to spend undistracted and unhurried time in Your presence regularly, seeking Your direction and guidance. Thank You that as I walk in wisdom throughout each day, You will deliver me and keep me safe from all harm!
