Worship and prayer are two things that go along great together. The act of glorifying the Savior through song and seeking his will on a daily basis go hand and hand. So of course the folks down at Hillsong figured it would be great to give some music to assist by providing the fellow Christ-follower with music that might better suit those quiet times of devotion. To do this, they've developed a new project, entitled Hillsong Chapel, in which they take songs from former albums and give them an acoustic arrangement. And to begin the project, we are given Yahweh.
The album begins softly with the now-classic "Hosanna." However, the orchestration of the song isn't much different from the original. They are by no means carbon copies, but the flow of the melody is not altered at all. And sadly, this continues through most of the album. With "You'll Come," the song feels very much the same - minus the drums. The same could be said of "Salvation Is Here" as the only thing it's missing is loud drums and a delay setting for the acoustic guitar.
On the other hand, songs like "Run" and "The Time Has Come" have some obvious alterations, such as different keys, time signatures, and even melodies. At points, they would seem to even improve on their predecessors. Of course there are some tracks that continue with the greatness they held before, such as "Yahweh" and "This Is Our God," but to say that they make the album worth it would be a misconception.
There are two major downsides to the album: one, the album does not flow seamlessly from song to song and two, it's a live album. If the intention was to have music to play during devotions and prayer, the album missed the mark. If it was to release a best hits collection with slightly new arrangements, then sure, they would have completed their goal with excellence. That is not to say the album has nothing to offer and that it isn't anointed, just simply that the goal hasn't been reached yet. But if you know Hillsong, then you know that this is only the beginning.
