Above the Golden State, Chasen, and Children 18:3 are all examples of trios that made names for themselves in 2008. One trio that has seemed to have gone overlooked, however, is the alt-rock/pop trio Me In Motion, whose self-titled debut EP is nothing to scoff at, but leaves room for much improvement.

"You Never Fail Me" starts things off, proving to be the anthem rocker of the EP. As the title implies, the trio praises God for always being there when they need Him. This track sets the stage for the EP, revealing the major drawback to the EP upfront, and that is its simplistic lyrics. While the lyrical themes presented here are very laudable, the way they are presented are a little unsophisticated. On the first track, the chorus is quick and to the point ("You never fail me, so I will trust in You"), which is fine, but it's not very descriptive. This lyrical simplicity mars the entire five song set, and is the only stumbling block that prevents this EP from really being something special.

"Tears" finds lead singer Seth David asking the Lord for help, "My tears falling on You/my heart swimming in emotion/Come on Jesus, help me now." This song is slower than the last, which makes a nice balance. "Welcome to Your Life" and "Here In the Middle" are a little better on the lyrical side of things, but the songs suffer from a lack of range melodically. Almost chant-like, the tracks are possibly too consistent. As encouraging as it is, "Back To You" is probably the best track. It's an appropriate closer, asking God to forgive for past wrongs and wanting to go back to the Lord for healing.

Me In Motion EP is a pretty quick listen, but it's a nice overview of what we can expect from this trio. With a full-length album due later in 2009 from Centricity Music, we shall see how their songwriting matures.
