Passion
How Great Is Our God

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 13 tracks: 68 minutes, 34 seconds
Street Date: April 12, 2005

Passion's eighth installment, How Great is Our God, reunites some of the most popular names in modern worship including Chris Tomlin, David Crowder and Watermarks' Christy Nockels. Held in Nashville, Passion 05 drew over 11,000 college students and young adults. The entire album gives listeners a glimpse into the Passion experience. One can feel the power and excitement in each song. The voices of thousands of young people mixed with those of world-renown worship leaders create another successful album in the Passion series.

The album begins with the popular, upbeat "There is No One Like You." The song drips with energy and is a great way to begin the album. "All Over the World" continues the pace set by "There is No One Like You," though I did not find it as memorable. Chris Tomlin's version of "Indescribable" is next. The radio hit sounds even better with a live audience, although it lacks the quiet simplicity found in singer/songwriter Laura Story's version. The title track, "How Great is Our God," is next, and it is a perfect reflection of the talent found in the Passion worship leaders. The song is sure to become a worship favorite. The David Crowder Band performs the next song, "Here is Our King." The song is catchy and has good lyrics, but the music is very similar to other Crowder songs. The following track, "Majesty," is one of the album's strongest songs. However, I would have liked it more if it was performed by Delirious. The next three tracks, "The Glory of His Name," "Whole World in His Hands" and "Missions Flame" are performed well and continue the mood of the album. "Marvelous Light" was one of my favorite songs on the album and I found myself quickly singing along. The song has excellent lyrics and is a cry of a generation longing for Christ. "Nothing but the Blood" is more subdued, but it works nicely. "Your Grace is Enough" is a rocking track that adds even more passion to the album. Passion: How Great is our God ends with a beautiful performance by Shane and Shane of "It is Well." It is a great ending for a great album.

Passion: How Great is Our God continues the tradition of excellence found in previous Passion albums. The Passion team continues to be relevant and fresh, and the album reflects that. Fans of the series will not be disappointed, and those new to the Passion albums will find much to be excited about. I hope the Passion team continues to expand and include more artists on its roster.
