Let's face it. The Christian Metalcore genre has been overpopulated by hundreds of bands that sound overwhemingly similar to each other. Where does that leave BlessTheFall? Well, to be honest, they don't stand out much from any particular band. However, that does not mean this band shouldn't get a listen. What this band does, they do very well.
First of all, let's start with the positives. Craig, the now ex-vocalist, can sing his heart out as if he is trying to win American Idol, and does it very well. His screaming is not incredibly diverse, but it definitely gets the job done. Matt, the band's drummer, is a talented drummer whose double bass fills demand some serious attention. The guitar work is carried out solidly, nothing ground breaking, but what you would expect from a metalcore band.
Now for the negatives. While each song on its own are worth a listen ("Guys Like You Make Us Look Bad," "His Last Walk" for example), listening to the entire record in one sitting is difficult. Many of the tracks sound similar, using the same formula in many of the songs.
You can find some spirituality in the lyrics, not everywhere, but here and there. However, Craig the vocalist was kicked out of the band, leaving a new chapter open for BlessTheFall. If you are into Metalcore, this band is worth a listen from you. But if you are looking for some groundbreaking new material, looking elsewhere wouldn't be a bad idea.
