Born from a power couple within the Christian metal scene, Jani Stefanovic (ex-Divinefire, Essence of Sorrow and Crimson Moonlight) and his wife Katja, is Silence the Echo. We have heard this duo in the band The Waymaker (along with the legendary Christian Liljegren). However, this is obviously a more focused project around Katja's vocal talents. We now have the debut offering of this band, titled Liberation.

When it comes to debuts, I'm fully intent on identifying the sound that a band is trying to form. With this album, we can start to see the foundations forming well. The first single the band ever released, "Into Serenity" (from 2024), is still one of my favorite songs on this album. A mix of heavy guitars, soaring vocals and synthesizer help drive the catchiness of this song. The lyrics are very uplifting, always pointing towards the Lord, with lines like, "Through the storms, through the fire / With Him, You'll rise higher and higher."

Some of the negatives of the album can be found on the song "Burn Deep Within," where some of the quasi-rap metal male vocals just don't really fit. I won't criticize the lyrics, because they always point back to Jesus, but I feel like some of the vocal deliveries could benefit from better harmonies. This isn't to knock Jani's vocals at all, however. For example, his vocal parts in "Through the Dark" are one of my favorite parts on the whole album. That song is fantastic and one of the highlights of Liberation. As I said, there's a lot to this debut that forms a great core sound of this band, and I can't wait to hear where they go on future recordings. My personal favorite song is the title track - it's an earworm that gets stuck on repeat in my head all day.

All in all, I believe Silence the Echo is a breath of fresh air within the Christian metal scene. I highly recommend them to anyone who is a fan of Amaranthe. Considering AI is having a growing impact within the music industry today, it's nice to have a band representing real authenticity.
