Oklahoma City rockers Less Than Greater Than have only released one single since their 2018 EP Let It Breathe, but their new song "Monkey" just released in April of 2023. The new single sees the band continuing their rocking ways, complete with 90s alt/rock flair. It's really where this band shines: big driving guitar songs. While the song lyrically talks about a serious issue, -- "Monkey, will you ever get enough? What started as infatuation, hasn't turned into love. Monkey, there is no more you can take. Another day, another lifetime; you are my biggest mistake" -- it still manages to have a really fun and carefree vibe musically. For instance, the palm muted guitar part in between the chorus and verses has a nice feel and the spoken word "I gotta have it" (which plays like an internal conversation we've all had with ourselves) really adds to this lighthearted approach. And in true Less Than Greater Than fashion, we are treated to another great guitar solo in the back half of the track.
Less Than Greater Than have been around for quite some time now and they continue to prove that they know how to rock and how to write a fun song. If you're a fan of this type of music, or have enjoyed their past material, "Monkey" is a no-brainer. There are no complaints to be found. Good production and a fun vibe all in a rocking tune. After "Undercover" in 2021 and "Monkey" in 2023, hopefully we'll see Less Than Greater Than release a new EP sometime soon.
