Baby, help me understand!

[Verse 1: MC Zappa]

Why do the righteous suffer while the wicked appear to flourish?
Why is belligerence often mistaken for courage?

Why are we more concerned about our earthly condition
Then storin' up treasures in heaven and avoidin' perdition?

Why do people think sin is somethin' to play wit'?
Destroyed Kings Saul, Solomon, Herod and Ahab

Why are we quick to rock a cross and scream Jesus
But forget His death, by means of which He redeemed us?

Truly, truly, I tell ya, if there is not repentance
Then you're gonna pay those [conseQUENCES]

Why do we claim to be in Christ, but don't follow the Word of God?
That's why He'll say "depart from Me; I never heard of y'all"

If you neither love God nor thy neighbor
Then why do you believe you enjoy divine favor?

Some won't learn 'til it's casket time
Lord, I don't get it; I'm askin' why

[Chorus: Hakeem Shakur]

So many questions that I can't answer why
The only one who can is Adonai

So many questions that I can't answer why
The only one who can is Adonai

[Bridge]

Why? Why? Why? Why? WHY?!
Why?
Baby---
Help me understand

[Verse 2: MC Zappa]

Why do we use our tongues to praise God and curse men?
Epistle of James, chapter 3 and verse 10

Why are we so quick to judge, blame and condemn
When meanwhile, the whole time, we committin' the same sin?

Why do we insist on goin' to church every Sunday
Then go right back to workin' lawlessness on Monday?

Why do my people perish from lack of accurate knowledge
But some take it, forsake it, and still act like the godless?

Why do pastors cruise the block in Armani and Benzes
While the congregation can't afford to make ends meet?

If you love God, then why would you willingly hurt your brother?
Misuse the gift of life, but you think you deserve another?

Why is lovin' correction conflated wit' hatin'?
Don't you realize, that's just another tactic of Satan?

Why is Biblical Christianity effectively banned?
Somebody please, [help me understand!]

[Chorus: Hakeem Shakur]

So many questions that I can't answer why
The only one who can is Adonai

So many questions that I can't answer why
The only one who can is Adonai

[Bridge]

Why? Why? Why? Why? WHY?!
Why?
Baby---baby---
Help me understand

[Verse 3: MC Zappa]

Why do rappers do the bidding of corporate devils
Then have the audacity to market themselves as rebels?

Why are the ones that encourage you to repent
The same ones the world encourages you to resent?

Why do we only call on God when there's a problem
But when we up, we got amnesia like Michael McDonald?

Why do people tell you to live your truth and do what you feel's right
Until that decision leads you to Christ?

Why is it some would rather go blind like Etta James
Than accept the truth that coulda kept 'em from the flames?

Why is it when you're lookin' for answers that's comprehensive
All of a sudden, askin' a question becomes offensive?

Why is it every day I'm forced to witness injustice
When my soul and conscience can only take so much of this?

It's enough to make a grown man cry
I keep the faith, but if you see me wit' tears, don't ask why

[Chorus: Hakeem Shakur]

So many questions that I can't answer why
The only one who can is Adonai

So many questions that I can't answer why
The only one who can is Adonai

[Bridge]

Why? Why? Why? Why? WHY?!
Why?
Baby---
Help me understand

Why? Why? Why? Why? WHY?!
Why?
