Heading out of town, wheels up, top down, leaving all my worries behind

I got three days off with two good friends and one thing on my mind

It’s been so long since I felt the simple freedom of the wind blowing through my hair

The open road is an open door and it’s gonna lead us anywhere

All my life I’ve been waiting; waiting for good things to come my way

It’s time for me to go out there and find them on my own

And this might just be my day

Had a lot of laughs with a waitress out in Vegas, we danced until they shut the place down

She said, “I wish I’d met you years ago, ‘cause tomorrow morning I leave town”

She said: “All my life I’ve been waiting; waiting for my luck to finally change.

It’s time for me to go out there and change it on my own

And this might just be my day”

Heading out of town, wheels up, top down, tomorrow’s getting ready to shine

Looking for the key to the mystery and I’m feeling like it’s already mine

All our lives, we’ve been waiting, waiting for our world to finally change

It’s time for us to get out there and change it on our own

And this might just be our day

Behind the Song:
"In many ways, this is my favorite song from the album, because it captures the joy of the whole project. The idea came to me on a cross-country road trip with my dear friend Bill Danylik. We flew from Boston to Chicago and then drove in a Mustang convertible from Chicago to the Gorge in Washington state to see the Joni Jam with Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, Annie Lennox, Sara McLachlan and many other amazing musicians. The lineup speaks for itself, but the show was even better in person than it was on paper. We hit a lot of food joints – from five star restaurants to dive bars – and met so many interesting people during our journey that we decided to buy a notebook to write down their stories and a guitar to add some music to them. Hopefully, those individual stories will make it onto future albums, but I wrote this one to sum up the feel of the whole trip. It’s about the joy of turning each day into a good day."
