08. Rise of the Robots

Staple
by Staple

Here they come. They’re marching my way again. I can see my reflection in their metallic skin.
Here they come. They’re marching my way again. Conformity is their staple and status their weapon.

Oh, my precious sold out reputation. It means so much more than my beliefs…

Will I face full attack from you? Will I break again like I’ve been known to?
Fallen face first on my conscience today, but it’s so much more comfortable this way.

“Come to me, my little sweet. I’ve got scores of processed friends for you to meet.
You’ve always been my favorite dish. You’re number 85 on my list.
Come to me, my little baby. Please say yes, not no or maybe.
Come to me my little treat. The system’s hungry and it wants to eat.”

I already know that you don’t love me so. And if I stay the same, you’ll walk away.

I love when I’m feeling tall as I smile at the crowd that claims my fall.

Behind the Song:
'This song is speaking out against conformity to a system of beliefs or a status level in society when it goes against your convictions. I was inspired to write this when I looked back on my high school experiences. The temptation to fit in was so strong, but in doing so, I was simply buying into the system and becoming like everyone else. I betrayed the core of who I was simply because it was easier and others approved of me more. That all meant nothing, looking back.' - Staple
