Newsboys Australia's national Christian music charts, The Rock Across Australia (TRAA), today named contemporary Christian music mainstay newsboys 2007 Artist of the Year, and recipient of the Song of the Year honor for "Something Beautiful".

In 2007, the internationally acclaimed pop-rock quartet spent 13 weeks atop TRAA with "Something Beautiful," a song written by written by newsboys' lead singer Peter Furler and guitarist Paul Colman.

Colman previously won TRAA's 2000 and 2001 Artist of the Year honors with the Paul Colman Trio, and 2005 Song of the Year honors for his solo hit "Gloria (All God's Children)."

This is first time newsboys has earned TRAA honors.

Since newboys formed two decades ago, the Aussie group that now resides in the USA has achieved phenomenal international success earning five gold albums, sales exceeding six million units, more than 20 radio hits, plus a mantle of Dove Awards and Grammy nominations.

Known for its spectacular live performances and groundbreaking tours, the band continues to sellout festivals and concerts worldwide satisfying diehard fans and winning new ones in the process.

Next March, newsboys return to Australia for a series of concerts in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Toowoomba.

The Rock Across Australia, better known as TRAA, compiles its weekly charts from playlists supplied by more than 20 of the nation's largest Christian stations including FM103.2 (Sydney), Light FM (Melbourne), 96Five (Brisbane), Life FM (Adelaide), Sonshine FM (Perth), 96Three (Geelong), and the Vision Radio Network (national).

Together, these stations attract more than 846 000 listeners weekly. [McNair Ingenuity Research, 2007.]

TRAA's annual airplay accolades recognise the artist or group gaining the most airplay on Australian Christian radio, plus the individual song generating the most airplay.
