The past year has been a time of new clarity and hope for the worship artist despite the challenges of the pandemic. Stephanie Alessi Muiña, known as Steph Alessi Muiña, is a singer songwriter and worship leader from Miami, Florida. Born in a family dedicated to serving Christ in their community, Steph grew up in her parents’ church, Metro Life Church, alongside her three siblings in the heart of the city. From a young age, she developed a deep love and sense of calling for God’s Church and joined the family’s vision to reach Miami as she began uncovering her musical gifts and embarked on the journey of a lifetime that has been unfolding song by song ever since. Steph is currently director of worship at Metro Life Church, a role that has allowed her to grow in her passion and craft her songs in the safe place of her community over the last few years.

Steph started journaling and songwriting as a child. Faced with periods of loneliness, she developed a close relationship with the Lord at an early age and processed her emotions in writing, “it was like therapy to me,” she explains. At the same time, she was exposed to the diverse nature of God’s family from the beginning, shaping her heart for international communities and for people of all kinds of walks of life. The singer shares that her involvement in women’s ministry also opened her eyes to the individual, “it forged a wide view of church that I keep in mind when writing songs [...] I think of the newbie as much as I do those who have been there their whole life,” she states with authentic compassion. Since then, the modern-day psalmist has been writing profusely with purity and honesty oozing out of her songs. After what she describes as an “easy life” –thankful for the blessing of her upbringing, church, and the shelter of her parents’ home –Steph entered a difficult season in her twenties. She returned home after a year away with crushed dreams and expectations but remained close to God through the humbling time she faced, recognizing that her early years of journaling had prepared the path for her to put her journey into song. Her debut EP “Still Waters” was birthed during that time. “My songs are a mirror to my journey with the Lord,”Steph says, “I don’t hide but use them [the songs] to process what I am learning, figuring out and going through.”

The past year has been a time of new clarity and hope for Steph despite the challenges of the pandemic. The journey the artist has been on has marked her life and song writing with an unwavering trust in God’s timing after meeting and marrying her husband, Christopher, and collaborating with songwriters all over the country in the midst of a global crisis. “What I thought would set me back really accelerated me forward and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. I’m so honoured by the opportunity put my songs out there to help people hear them and be ministered to by them,” she adds.

Now is the time for new songs displaying Steph’s heart in lyrics and melodies permeated by God’s faithfulness. Her forthcoming EP lays her testimony bare for the world to hear; it communicates the transcendent message of the Gospel through joyful and honest songs, introduced by first single 'Wouldn’t Change A Thing'. Steph describes the single as “a perfect umbrella for the project,”focusing around the thematic of coming out of a hard season singing the faithfulness of God. “I’ve always seen my calling to be an encouragement for the church,” she concludes, “I only wish to be another person who pushes others and the kingdom of God forward in the smallest way.” Steph Alessi Muiña is a beacon of unifying, faith-filled music permeated by holiness for the Church of today.
