After a quiet start to 2025, Nathan Oswalt is gearing up for a roaring return to music. Last Friday (May 16), the up-and-coming, fully-independent, faith-based pop/alternative artist, songwriter and producer released his debut E.P., titled THE PRELUDE, to streaming platforms. The project serves as a remastered compilation of Oswalt’s complete catalog of singles released so far - “WHO KNOWS (2024 Version)”, “OUTRUN (2023 Version)”, “SHADOWLANDS (2022 Demo)”, and “STILL GOOD (2023 Version)”.

The updated “version” song titles confirm Oswalt’s plans to eventually record and release more polished renditions in the future, which he had previously discussed in a 2024 interview with JesusFreakHideout’s Michael Weaver:

“The plan is to revise all [my] singles…by modifying the instrumentation…and re-recording at least the lead vocals, in order to make each song sound more polished and as professional-caliber as possible. …I love how the initial cuts turned out[,] but after listening to each of them again post-release and receiving some valuable input from several of my musically-knowledgeable family members, friends, and mentors, I've come to the conclusion that they should all probably be…improved some[.]”

Even so, Oswalt might well be his own harshest critic - over the last 12 months, both the initial studio-recorded versions of “WHO KNOWS” and “OUTRUN” have been added by DREAM Label Group to their official “Top Christian” Spotify playlist, where they still remain as of May 21, 2025. The early recording of “STILL GOOD”, meanwhile, remains Oswalt’s most-streamed track to date, with a combined total of 3,947 across Spotify and Apple Music. Despite just two-and-a-half years of experience as an “active” artist - and with only 4 original songs to his name so far - the 24-year-old autistic multi-hyphenate from Vancouver, WA has already accumulated over 10,000+ combined streams.

With THE PRELUDE, Nathan Oswalt officially closes the book on the opening stage of his burgeoning creative journey and begins preparations for the next exciting phase of his artistry, marked by increased personal involvement in the production and engineering processes of his future material. He is currently working on his first brand-new single of 2025, which he hopes to finish and release early this summer.

As the title of his inaugural E.P. aptly implies, Nathan Oswalt is just getting started.
