NASHVILLE, TENN. (JULY 10, 2025) Porter’s Call is set to host its 16th annual “Evening of Stories” Sept. 16, 2025, at The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Nashville’s Belmont University. This year’s highly anticipated slate of in-the-round storytellers includes GRAMMY®, CMA, ACM, Oscar, and Golden Globe-nominated songwriter Tom Douglas, as well as activist, speaker, and New York Times bestselling author Anthony Ray Hinton. Chart-topping country artist Drew Baldridge and emerging Americana songstress Julie Williams will offer additional stories and songs.

ABOUT TOM DOUGLAS:
Tom Douglas is an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and GRAMMY-nominated songwriter. After a 13-year career in commercial real estate, Douglas got his first song recorded by Collin Raye at the age of 41. That song, “Little Rock,” reached #1, earned a nomination for CMA Song of the Year, and received the Million-Air Award from BMI for achieving one million spins on country radio. Since then, Douglas has written numerous No. 1 hits, including: “I Run to You” (Lady A), “Southern Voice” (Tim McGraw), and “The House That Built Me” (Miranda Lambert). The Grammy Award-winning “The House That Built Me” spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts and was honored with the ACM’s first-ever Song of the Decade award. Douglas was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014. In 2022, he released his acclaimed feature film Love, Tom on Paramount+, which Rolling Stone called “a direct-to-camera, fourth wall–smashing marvel.” Love, Tom is currently available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime. In addition to the film, Douglas also performs a live version of Love, Tom at venues across the country. Douglas is signed to Sony Music Publishing and lives in Nashville with his wife, Katie.

ABOUT ANTHONY RAY HINTON:
Anthony Ray Hinton survived for 30 years on Alabama’s death row following a wrongful conviction. His story is a decades-long journey to exoneration and freedom. In 1985, Mr. Hinton was convicted of the unsolved murders of two fast-food restaurant managers based on the testimony of ballistics experts for the State who claimed that the crime bullets came from a dusty revolver found in Mr. Hinton’s mother’s closet. Without the benefit of a competent expert to challenge the State’s theory (Mr. Hinton’s lawyer hired a ballistics expert who was blind in one eye), an all-white jury convicted Mr. Hinton and he was sentenced to death. After years of petitioning to have the revolver re-analyzed, three independent experts concluded that the bullets could not have been fired from his mother’s revolver. With the assistance of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), led by attorney Bryan Stevenson, Mr. Hinton was freed in 2015. Since his release, Mr. Hinton has traveled the world, sharing his story and discussing the changes that need to be made to prevent similar injustices from happening to others. In 2018, Mr. Hinton published The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row, which was selected for Oprah’s Book Club and is a New York Times bestseller. In 2019, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by St. Bonaventure University, and in 2023, he received an honorary doctorate from Emory University. He works as a community educator at EJI.

ABOUT DREW BALDRIDGE:
Drew Baldridge has built more than just a successful career—he’s made history. His breakout hit, “She’s Somebody’s Daughter,” became the first self-released debut single to reach No. 1 on the Country Aircheck/Mediabase chart. The RIAA GOLD-certified viral sensation has generated over 1.1 billion streams and impressions across platforms and stands as the highest-charting self-funded song ever on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. Following its success, Baldridge signed with BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville/Stoney Creek and released his follow-up single, “Tough People,” which climbed into the Top 10 on country radio. He was recently named to the CRS New Faces Class of 2025, selected as an iHeart On the Verge artist, and honored as MusicRow’s Independent Artist of the Year. As a songwriter signed to Sony Music Publishing, Baldridge has written more than 500 songs, recorded by artists including Bailey Zimmerman, LOCASH, and Chase Matthew. He has shared the stage with country stars such as Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and Cody Johnson, and is currently on tour with Zimmerman before rejoining Johnson later this year. In addition to touring and writing, Baldridge hosts a weekend radio show on LA’s Go Country (KKGO), airing Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM PT. For more, visit DrewBaldridgeMusic.com.

ABOUT JULIE WILLIAMS:
CMT Next Women of Country and Billboard Country Rookie Julie Williams is turning heads in Nashville’s Americana music scene with her compelling blend of country storytelling, soft-yet-powerful vocal performance, and indie folk production. A member of the Black Opry Revue, Julie was named in Rissi Palmer’s Color Me Country Class of 2021, featured on Wide Open Country’s list of “10 Country Acts Poised for a Breakout Year in 2023,” and her single “Southern Curls” was covered by CMT, “PBS NewsHour,” and numerous music publications. Building her career on the road, Julie has captivated audiences at festivals such as Newport Folk Festival, CMA Fest, Tortuga Music Fest, High Water Festival, Cayamo, and AmericanaFest. She has shared the stage with acts across genres, including Jason Isbell, Allison Russell, Mt. Joy, Devon Gilfillian, Brittney Spencer, and Will Hoge. An activist at heart, Julie launched Green Room Conversations in March 2023, a series of performances and speaking engagements on college campuses aimed at raising awareness of sexual harassment in the music industry. In October 2024, Julie released her EP, Tennessee Moon, which was featured in Billboard, Nashville Scene, Entertainment Tonight, and Bluegrass Situation, and was listed on NPR music critic Ann Powers' list of the best albums released by Nashville artists in 2024. In March 2025, Julie performed at a sold-out Nashville symphony show with Dolly Parton for her new production, Dolly Parton’s Threads, and will be traveling with their national tour this year. Julie released her new song, “The Women Who Made Me,” in May. The song and music video, which feature country icon Trisha Yearwood and Julie’s mom, are a love letter to all the strong women who made her who she is.
