Today, two-time GRAMMY Nominee Blessing Offor releases Real, his follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut album My Tribe. The 16 songs, including the previously released “Lift Me Up,” “The Morning,” “Real,” and “Crying Out Loud,” were written as Blessing faced a series of personal tragedies – losing his sister, best friend and partner, and mother within the span of 18 months – while simultaneously experiencing career highs like the aforementioned GRAMMY nominations and releasing a song with Dolly Parton, among others. Rather than shy away from the hurt, he found the rawest kind of inspiration by creating art through a season of major loss, taking the emotional wounds and forging them into songs. For Real, Blessing worked with co-writers including Hank Bentley (Crowder, Brandon Lake) and Fraser Churchill (Charlie Puth, Flo Rida) as well as producers including Henrick Michelsen (BTS, Little Mix) and Morgan Taylor Reid (Michael Bolton, American Authors) to make the kind of music that gives a listener permission to be authentic in whatever they might be feeling, whether it’s grief, joy, love, or loss. Real is now available HERE.
“When I started writing the songs for Real, I didn’t set out to chronicle the last two and a half years,” shares Blessing. “But that’s exactly what happened, and I couldn’t be happier for it. Each song feels like a flare shot into a dark sky. I’m just hoping whoever needs that light can see it and take a little comfort from it.”
On Monday, August 11th Blessing will return to Today with Jenna and Friends for the television debut of “Lift Me Up.” Released earlier this year, “Lift Me Up” has become the quickest growing track from Real after amassing over 5 million streams worldwide in a few short months. Today with Jenna and Friends airs on NBC beginning at 10 am EST.
