After kicking off 2025 with his debut compilation E.P. THE PRELUDE - a remastered collection of his early single releases - Nathan Oswalt returns with “MAKE UP YOUR MIND”, his first brand-new original track in just under a year. Due to impact streaming services worldwide on Friday, October 3, the upbeat pop tune showcases significant growth from the 24-year-old fully-independent artist as a songwriter, producer, and audio engineer, while exploring a new, more mainstream-oriented side of his creative expression.

On “MAKE UP YOUR MIND” - which marks his very first time serving as both the main producer and mixing engineer of an original song - Oswalt boldly rejects modern cultural norms such as “hookup culture” and “casual dating”, instead advocating for a more intentional, long-term approach as he attempts to gauge whether or not a prospective “crush” shares his earnest desire for a lifelong partner and is willing to commit. Amidst a backdrop of bouncy, energetic modern pop that calls to mind artistic influences such as Charlie Puth, Lauv, and AJ Mitchell, Oswalt questions the motives of his potential romantic interest, ultimately challenging them to communicate honestly with him about whether or not they truly reciprocate both his feelings and his attitude towards romantic relationships. Veteran audio engineer and producer Elan “ELOVE” Polushko (Moby, Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland, Simon Cowell), a friend and mentor of Oswalt’s, assisted in the production, mixing, and mastering of the track. With “MAKE UP YOUR MIND”, Oswalt sonically hearkens back to the 1980s-influenced, R&B-laced sonic tendencies of his debut single, “OUTRUN”, while also offering listeners an exciting glimpse into the future.

On the song’s creation and message, Oswalt says:

This song was actually inspired by a conversation I had with my cousin a few years ago. At the time, she had been going through a similar situation at high school where she wasn’t sure whether or not one of her classmates was just flirting with her for fun or actually serious about pursuing a relationship. I was immediately inspired to write and record a song about it, and now, after a couple of years developing and finalizing the production, now it’s finally finished and ready to share with the masses.
“MAKE UP YOUR MIND” is definitely different from any other song I’ve made so far, especially because it doesn’t have explicitly “Christian” lyrics or themes. Nonetheless, the Bible is clear in passages like Genesis 2:24 and Matthew 19:4-6 that the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman is God’s ultimate and perfect design for relationships. You don’t see that a lot in modern dating culture - more often than not, it’s the exact opposite. So the coolest part to me about this song the implicit focus on intentionally pursuing intimate romantic companionship through the lens of a Biblical worldview. I absolutely love “MAKE UP YOUR MIND” with all my heart and soul, and I hope that it inspires and challenges all listeners - single and dating alike - to never settle for less when they can, and should, strive for something so much better because they, as image-bearers of the One Who created them and loves them so deeply, are worth it.

The impending arrival of “MAKE UP YOUR MIND” continues what has been a busy year for Oswalt. Beyond the May 16 release of THE PRELUDE, the young multi-hyphenate has performed live at a handful of local open-mic events in and near his hometown of Vancouver, WA - which he plans to continue going forward. In addition, Oswalt has also found some minor success on YouTube Shorts, posting cover songs, snippets of new-and-in-progress original compositions, and occasional lighthearted attempts at joining viral trends as he slowly but steadily expands the reach of his creative endeavors. Most recently, his comedic musical take on the recent engagement of mainstream pop superstar Taylor Swift to Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 3-time Super Bowl champion and future NFL Hall of Famer Travis Kelce has been viewed over 3,000 combined times on YouTube and Instagram.
