Dero Goi, the acclaimed former frontman of Neue Deutsche Härte pioneers Oomph! and successful solo artist, has released a new music video for "The First Stone," a powerful track from his first solo double album «1984», released in 2024. The video debuted on November 11, 2025, and showcases a compelling narrative grounded in biblical inspiration, brings to life one of the Bible's most powerful stories of grace, redemption, and Christ's transformative love.
Released on November 11, 2025, "The First Stone" offers a dramatic retelling of the account found in John 8:1-11, where Jesus saves an adulteress from being stoned to death by mob. The song's lyrics powerfully capture the moment when Christ challenges the woman's accusers with the immortal words: "Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." Through evocative imagery and emotionally charged music, Dero Goi delivers a timeless message about judgment, mercy, and the bordeless love of Jesus Christ.
"I'm excited to present my brand new video, THE FIRST STONE, which was filmed against the epic backdrop of the Bavarian Alps," Dero Goi shared on social media. The dramatic story speaks for itself, I think. You can read about it in the Bible, specifically in John chapter 8, where Jesus saves an adulteress from being stoned by mob», - explains Dero Goi.
At its core, "The First Stone" delivers a timeless message that resonates across cultures and generations: no one is beyond God's grace, and those who would condemn others must first examine their own hearts. The song reminds listeners that Jesus came not to condemn but to save, offering forgiveness and a new beginning to all who turn to Him.
The video's narrative follows the biblical account faithfully: a woman lies on the ground, condemned and surrounded by an angry mob demanding her death. As despair overtakes her, Jesus steps forward to offer His hand of grace. The song's chorus declares: "The one who's not guilty, Shall cast the first stone," echoing Christ's challenge that exposed the hypocrisy of the woman's accusers and demonstrated God's boundless compassion.
The cinematic quality of the video, shot in the picturesque Bavarian Alps, provides a stunning visual canvas that amplifies the story's emotional and spiritual impact.
What sets “The First Stone” apart is not only its biblical authenticity but also Dero Goi’s unmistakable vocal prowess. Fans of OOMPH! have long recognized Dero Goi’s extraordinary vocal range, power, and emotional depth—qualities that made him one of the most distinctive voices in the Neue Deutsche Härte genre. His ability to convey both vulnerability and strength, moving seamlessly from tender introspection to commanding power, has influenced countless artists including Rammstein.
In “The First Stone,” Dero Goi’s beautiful, powerful vocals carry the emotional weight of the biblical narrative with stunning clarity. His voice captures the woman’s desperate plea—“Rescue me, help me please, Take me out of here, Save me, please”—with heartbreaking vulnerability, then shifts to embody Christ’s authoritative compassion as He silences her accusers. This vocal versatility, combined with his decades of experience as both a singer and poet, allows Dero Goi to transform ancient Scripture into a living, breathing testimony that resonates with modern audiences.
The filming process itself was pretty challenging. During production, the actress (Julia Davydova) portraying the adulteress, accidentally stumbled and fell off a cliff. Miraculously, she sustained only minor abrasions and was able to continue. "We can't thank God enough for this true miracle and for the fact that the video could be completed sucessfully with all participants remaining healthy on that day in the Bavarian Alps", Dero points out.
The music video for "The First Stone" represents a collaborative vision between Dero Goi and director David Panzer, with both sharing directorial duties. The production was helmed by Chris Schuller, whose expertise helped bring the ambitious visual concept to life. The video features cinematic cinematography and symbolic imagery that perfectly complements the song's intense sonic landscape.
Dero Goi’s Journey of Faith and Musical Transformation
Dero Goi's path to creating his solo album represents a profound personal and artistic transformation. Best known as the co-founder, lead vocalist, and drummer of the pioneering Neue Deutsche Härte band OOMPH!, Dero Goi enjoyed a multi-decade career that included multiple Gold and Platinum awards and a #1 chart position in Germany. However, following his conversion to Evangelical Christianity in 2021 and his subsequent departure from OOMPH!, Dero Goi embarked on a bold new solo journey that returns to his electronic music roots while embracing openly Christian themes.
"I had been searching for the meaning of life for many years, when I finally found that the only true way is Jesus Christ! Thanks to Him, I have been able to find inner peace from my personal guilt. He offered me salvation, this is what Jesus Christ the Son of God did for me out of pure love and mercy…”, Dero explained in an interview. His faith journey was catalyzed by personal crises, including his younger son's diagnosis with cancer and the death of his father, which led him to earnestly seek God. "I was really asking God if you're there then please reveal yourself to me," he recalled, describing how Christ answered his prayers and transformed his life.
