For Immediate Release (NASHVILLE, TN) — Multiple Grammy nominee and Dove Award winning singer and songwriter Bonnie Keen has released a new music video of “If I Ever Lose My Faith, ” a cover of the hit song recorded by Sting. The song is featured on Keen’s self-titled project, but unlike Sting’s version, this one is an a cappella arrangement— and all the vocals were performed by Keen.
“It was a wild dream come true,” says Keen. “My producer, Larry Hall, asked me what song I would love to record that would be kind of crazy. I told him I was a big Sting fan, and I loved this song— but I wanted it to be all vocals, no instruments. Larry said he wasn’t sure that would work, but three weeks later, he came in with a killer chart that was one of the most challenging and rewarding arrangements imaginable. It took me five sessions, and over five hours to record the 15-plus vocal parts. I wanted this project to feature a song that would pay homage to the background vocal work I did with First Call. Singing all the parts, the layers and complexity, are very much like what I enjoyed most in our recordings.”
The “Bonnie Keen” album features eight original songs written or co-written by Keen along with four cover tunes, including duets and collaborations with some of Christian music’s most respected musicians and producers. Hall — a world-class arranger and multi-instrumentalist whose credits include Russ Taff, Randy Travis, and John Schneider among others — produced and arranged the project. Award-winning guitarist Phil Keaggy, Grammy nominated vocalist Kathy Troccoli, sought-after musicians Tom Hemby, Gary Lunn, Jonathan Crone, and Dave Cleveland, all lend their musical gifts throughout the album.
Another highlight on the project, “Gethsemane Brave, ” is a call to believers for faith and courage. Keen has collaborated with human rights organization Christian Solidarity International (CSI) to bring awareness to the persecution of modern-day Christians across the globe with a one-minute radio feature called “Persecution Today." The radio show, which Keen narrates, highlights specific countries where persecution is happening and uses "Gethsemane Brave" as its theme song.
Keen says while “If I Ever Lose My Faith” is not your typical Christian lyric, it has a deep meaning for her personally.
“Part of the lyric says — ‘If I ever lose my faith in you, There'd be nothing left for me to do’— and I know if I should ever lose my faith in God, I would be sunk,” says Keen. “It is a good reminder for me to lean into Jesus on a daily basis— with my whole heart, mind, and soul. In a world that seems to be getting more confused and chaotic, God and the truth of His Word are the only constants we can count on. And I want to do everything in my power to keep Him at the center of my life.”
